Retired Fighters: Wisdom Warriors Turn Experience Into Activism

The MTA Retired Members Committee remains actively engaged in advocacy, organizing, and member support across the state. Retirees have expanded mentoring programs, launched new subcommittees focused on dignified retirement and retired ESP inclusion, and strengthened resources for members. Through People’s Forums held statewide, retirees helped elevate public voices in shaping new high school graduation requirements. Participants overwhelmingly called for learning that emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world skills over standardized testing. Retired members continue to advocate for authentic, locally developed assessments and multiple pathways to graduation.
