Published: September 2025

Nomination Deadline: June 5

Nominations are now open to fill vacancies on the MTA Candidate Recommendation Committee (CRC).  The committee is responsible for making recommendations to MTA members to support candidates for state and federal office. There are currently two vacancies on the committee one representing Congressional District 5 and another representing Congressional District 7.

Each committee member must reside in the congressional district to be represented.  If you live in Massachusetts Congressional District 5 or 7, you are eligible to nominate yourself.

Any eligible MTA member interested in running for the CRC should fill out the self-nomination form.

The form and a biographical statement of not more than 100 words must be received by Friday, June 5, 2020 Vacancies on the committee that occur between regular election cycles are filled by a vote of the current committee members. After the conclusion of the nomination period, the list of candidates and their biographical statements (if provided) will be sent to the committee for consideration at its next (virtual) meeting on June 9. Candidates are welcome to attend, and details will be provided.

Term: The term of a seat that fills an interim vacancy is “until the next regular election is held.”  This seat will have a term beginning on the date voted upon by the committee and expiring on March 14, 2021.

Election Waiver: If the number of candidates is equal to or less than the number of positions to be filled, elections may be waived and the candidate/s declared elected to the position/s in question.

Some Ways to Participate

MTA committee members

  • MTA committees are where members can engage and have their voices heard. The great majority of committee appointments are, by policy, made by the president. Some are elected by the Board. Please feel free to attend meetings and voice your opinions.
  • Resolutions: Members are invited to propose Resolutions for review by the Resolutions Committee and the Board to be voted on at the Annual Meeting in May. Resolutions are statements of policy and support that can be used to guide leadership.
  • Bylaws and Standing Rules: Members are invited to review the MTA Bylaws and Standing Rules and submit proposals for changes to the Bylaws and Rules Committee, to be reviewed by the committee and the Board and voted on at the Annual Meeting.
