The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released a memo regarding the implementation of Question 2 to eliminate the MCAS graduation requirement, meaning the use of scores to determine eligibility for a high school diploma. According to DESE, the new language will take effect on December 5, 2024. Students in the class of 2025 and future classes will be eligible to earn a diploma based on satisfactory completion of coursework. Additional guidance from DESE is forthcoming.
